I am here at Mount Sterling in command of Six hundred men at the present time I have found out a good deal more since I left Frankfordt about the Rebel mail line between this place and the Rebel camp there are three lines in this portion of the State from Mayslick to Humphrey Marshal from this place to same & from Madison Co to Morgan I have men at work truemen and I intend to break it up If you can get the Legislature to pass an act giving you a secret fund for the scouting business and will let me go tRegularly into it I think I can do good I am will Resign my position heare (I understand that the Field officers are to be elected if so I will be unanimously elected ^Jun^r major^) and go into the work without any rank or pay if the state will pay my expences I would like to heare from you at your earliest leasure
