For the first time in my life I apply for a position. I am aware it is usual to obtain such things through the intercession & recommendation of others, but I have resolved to act for my self in view of your acquaintance with me. I am compelled with my family to leave home in
consequence of the Rebels having our Country in possession. ~~And [...]~~ If the President in accordance with our request agrees that some citizens of Kentucky may be associated with Judge Hitchcock in the trial of Presiners at "Camp Chase,, I would be glad under the circumstances to have the appointment. If you should
confer the appointment upon me I will & shall feel deeply grateful —
