Dear Sir

having been informed by Col. K. Jameson that he had appied to you for a first lieutenants commission for me by request of one of the companies in his redgement and having procured a recomendation from Capt Blake and Maj. Gen. M^cCook and forwarded it to Genl. Boyl I feel satisfied that if this be in your powr that a commision will be granted if ther is no positive order from the war department against it there is an order I suppose prohibitting transfers but I dont think there is any to prevent the promotion ast for by me Col. George. T. Wood I think is one of the military board of Ky if so he can gave you my history in civil life and for my military experiance I refer you to Gen^l M^cCook under whoes immediate command I have been since the 11^th of oct. 61.

I was raised in Hart Co. Ky where I have resided until this unhappy war began and being like many others of my friends compelled leave my home I have drawn my sword in defence of my country never to return until rebellion is putdown if I should be so fortunate as to be promoted by you I can only you to do my duty as an officer if not I will continue to do my dieuty in the
ranks as a private I have seen a good chance of Sevice and have been in two considerable engagements for my conduct in which you can in quire of my officers I will leave this to you and await an answer
