Thos Edrington just sentenced to confinement in the state Penitentiary for a term of 3 years & 9 months, was under my medical treatment, several times within the last 12 months.

I saw him one week before the notice of the shooting of his wife was published in the daily paper here. He had at that time discharged his pistol, the ball passing through the ceiling. I learned from his wife and Mother that it was a random shot, — unexpected: that he was under the influence of a deep potation of alcoholic spirits, and I prescribed medicine for Mania [a potu]. He was well as ordinary the succeeding day.

One year ago, I was called to see s^d Edrington, and found him a wreck, both of ^his^ mental and physical systems. I considered him almost if not entirely imbecile — in a condition of passive stolidity? to all ordinary events, which was highly marked to my mind in view of my acquaintance with him from boyhood up, as this contrasted. His mental status is no better, if as good, now.

It is evident that he should be kept in restraint, and pardoned only with the view of immediate control of his movements.

Owen of Said City well Known to me and he did Sign and in due form of law make oath to the the foregoing affidavit as containing his opinion as a Doctor of Medicine in the case therein referred to And I certify that Said Doctor W. T. Owen is a practising physician and Surgeon in and of Said city, of more than ten years standing and that he has good reputation for professional skill and personal integrity.
