To his Excellency Gov. Robinson — The undersigned would respectfully represent that John Dempsey was tried at the present term of the Kenton Circuit Court and fined $.6000 for ~~selling liquor without license~~keeping a tippling — We have known Mr Dempsey for many years and have always regarded him as an upright, orderly and industrious citizen — The offense was alleged to have been committed in 1860 ^or 1861^, and there was but one witness who said that he had purchased from Mr^s Dempsey two or three times and that upon one occasion her husband was behind the bar. It was shown that at that time Dempsey and his wife had temporarily separated, he living in the county about 20 miles from the city and she living in the city — The selling was done in the city — Sometimes when Dempsey came to the city, he would stop and stay all night at the house with his wife.

We respectfully ask that your Excellency will remit the whole of said fines or such portion thereof, as you consistently can —
