To His Excellency James F Robinson Governor of the State of Kentucky.

Your Petitioner John. O. Willis would beg leave to State, to your Excellency, that at the May Term 1861 of the Grayson Circuit Court an Indictment was found against him for "Selling giving and loaning to a slave of an other Spiritous Liquors" That at the May Term of Said Court 1863, He was tried under said Indictment and fined the Sum of twentyDollars.

Your Petitioner would further State that the proof in on the trial was, that your petitioner, had ~~at the~~ during the winter of 1860 given to the slave One Dram of Whiskey which was all the evidence in the Cause,

Your Petitioner. would further state that on the 17" day of July 1861. He Left this county and volunteered under Gen^l Ruseau at Camp Jo Holt. to serve for Three years in the Federal Army of the United States, that He was taken Sick with Measles at Munfordville Ky in Decr 1861, that he Recovered so he could join his Regiment and Continued with the Same thoughin verybad health, until the Stone River Battle in June and was in Said battle; there, he was again taken Sick, with ~~the~~ Chronic Diorhea, and was sent to the Hospital at Nashville Tenn. and was very near Dying, and Honorably discharged on the 3^rd day of March 1863. that his Health is entirely gone. So much that he has not been able to do one days
work since, and doubts are entertained Whether he will ever ~~be able to~~ Recover his health so that he can work.

Your Petitioner States that he is a poor Young Man. and has no means to spare out of Which to pay the fine, and therefore asks your Excellency to Remit So much of the fine as your Excellency can lawfully do -- and your petitioner will ever pray &^c
