To His Excellency The Governor of Kentucky:
Sir:

Your petitioners respectfully represent that they were the sureties of Decius Priest Sheriff of Henderson County, in his Revenue Bond for the year 1861— that a judgment has been rendered against them in the Franklin Circuit Court, for the balance of the revenue for that year remaining unpaid, being for five or six thousand dollars, and also for the sum of two thousand six hundred & fifty dollars & 96 cts, damages— The said Priest is a man of but limited means, and in addition to the foregoing has other liabilities as Sheriff, for which these petitioners are responsible. They will have the judgment for the revenue to pay, as doubtless large amounts on other liabilities, and will doubtless suffer large losses thereby, They are willing to make the Commonwealth whole, by paying the balance of the revenue and interest, but they respectfully represent that the payment of the damages thereon would be a great hardship to them— They therefore respectfully petition your excellency to remit the amount of the said damages, And they will ever pray —
