Dear Sir

I am this morning placed in receipt of your esteemed favor of the 12th Inst advising me that my appointment as Commissioner of Deeds of the State of Kentucky for the state of Tennessee resident in the city of Memphis will expire on the 7th of Febry 1863 and desiring to know whether I wished a renewal to which I hasten to reply I wish to have my commission renewed and will avail my self of the earliest possible opportunity to enclose you the fee of Five Dollars the tax required upon commissions. You will please inform me — what sort of money will the fee be required to be paid in whether in Tennessee Kentucky or in United States Treasury notes. My testimonials of character and competency for the office which were furnished at the time I was appointed commissioner are on file in your office and to which I refer you. Your attention
