THOMAS E. BRAMLETTE,
GOVERNOR OF SAID COMMONWEALTH
To all whom these Presents shall come, Greeting:

Know Ye, That reposing special trust and confidence in the patriotism, valor, fidelity, and abilities of J K Edwards, I do hereby appoint him AID TO GOVERNOR, with the rank of Colonel, in the Kentucky Volunteer Militia, to rank as such from the 17^th day of Dec, eighteen hundred and 63. He is therefore carefully and diligently to discharge the duty of Colonel, by doing and performing all manner of things thereunto belonging. And I do strictly charge and require all officers and soldiers under his command to be obedient to his orders as my Aid; and he is to observe and follow such orders and directions, from time to time, as he shall recieve from me or the future Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, or the General or other superior officers set over him, according to the rules and discipline prescribed in the Military Laws of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. This commission to continue in force during the pleasure of the Governor of Kentucky for the time being.

In Testimony Whereof, I have hereunto set my name, and caused the seal of the State of Kentucky to be affixed, at Frankfort, the 17^th day of Dec, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty=3 and in the eighty=eigth year of the Independence of the United States of America.
