Dear Sir:

I have organized & drilled a Cavalry Company in this place intended to act as a Home Guard. The men have all taken the oath to support the Constitution of the United States & the State of Ky., before the County Judge, who superintended the election. Please send me a blank form, so that I can apply for arms as a Home Guard. Is it necessary to execute the Bond ~~[...]~~until we know certainly whether the Board will let us have the arms? Please inform me as to this & also what
description of arms (if any) you have suitable for Cavalry.

Our men are for the Union — & one thing is certain, Garrard Co. is going to stay in under all circumstances. I know you are troubled with many inquiries — but I trust you will find time to assist me in this matter — & probably I can reciprocate ain future.
