I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 11^th inst. I have given recruiting authority to various persons and instructions to report success from time to time. The draft has doubtless retarded our success to some extent in this enterprise. His Excellency has determined to draft the militia of the state to supply these 10,000 men, and Inspector Gen^l Lindsey is preparing to carry the draft out at an early date. You will be duly notified from time to time of the action taken, and success attending our efforts.
