Todd County, Kentucky, attorney and politician. Kentucky native. Married to Emily Helm Bristow in Hardin County, Kentucky, on May 3, 1831. Father of Mary Margaret Bristow, Martha Bristow, Benjamin Helm Bristow, and Francis M. Bristow. Studied law and admitted to the bar. Practiced law in Elkton, Kentucky. Elected as a member of the House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Kentucky from 1831 to 1833. Elected to the Senate of the Commonwealth of Kentucky in 1846. Delegate to the Kentucky Constitution Convention in 1849. Whig member of the United States House of Representative from the 3rd Congressional District of Kentucky from December 1854 to March 1855 and as an Opposition Party member from 1859 to 1861. Member of the House Committee of Thirty-three in December 1860. Delegate to the 1861 Peace Convention in Washington, D.C. Delegate to the 1861 Border States convention in Frankfort, Kentucky.
