Kentucky soldier, attorney, and politician. Son of Thomas N. Lindsey. Married to Catherine McIlavain Fitch Lindsey. Father of Antoinette Dumesnill Lindsey, Thomas Noble Lindsey, Jr., Henry Fitch Lindsey, Daniel Weisiger Lindsey, Jr, and Catherine F. Lindsey. Educated by B. B. Sayre in Frankfort, Kentucky. Graduated from the Kentucky Military Institute in 1854. Attorney with Thomas N. Lindsey in Frankfort. Graduated from the University of Louisville Law School in Louisville in 1857. Member of the Protestant Episcopal Church and the Masonic Lodge in Frankfort. Captain in the Kentucky State Guard in 1861. Appointed as chief of staff to General Thomas L. Crittenden in September 1861. Served in the 22nd Kentucky Volunteer Infantry Regiment (U.S.A.) as a Colonel from 1861 to 1863. Inspector general of Kentucky from 1863 to 1865. Adjutant general of Kentucky from August 1, 1864 to 1867.
