Henderson, Kentucky, minister, attorney and city council advisor. Tennessee native. Married Nannie "Ann" E. Dixon Vance on November 21, 1854. Father of Cordelia Vance, Robert Vance, Mary Vance, Samuel B. Vance, Jr., and Andrew Vance. Graduated from Cumberland University in Tennessee in 1849. Minister of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, in 1849 and 1850. Attorney in Henderson in 1860. Owned two enslaved persons in 1860. Advisor to the Henderson City Council from 1858 to 1859 and 1862 to 1866.
