Captain and lieutenant colonel in the 45th Regiment of Kentucky Militia (U.S.A.) from 1861 to 1863. Appointed as a U.S. Marshall of Leitchfield, Kentucky, with the rank of captain in July 1863. Stationed at Camp Calloway. Enrolling officer for Grayson County in 1863. Deputy provost marshal in the 2nd Military District of Kentucky in 1863. Reassigned to Louisville from 1864 to 1865.
