Member of the convention of the provisional government held at Russellville in November 1861. Served in the 3rd Kentucky Volunteer Infantry Regiment (C. S. A.) as a colonel from October 18, 1861 to March 25, 1864. Killed in battle at Paducah on March 25, 1864.
