Hopkins County, Kentucky, farm laborer and soldier. Kentucky native. Son of John L. Peyton and Pauline Peyton. Farmer in Hopkins County in 1860. Second lieutenant in the 25th Kentucky Volunteer Infantry Regiment (U.S.A.), which consolidated into the 17th Kentucky Infantry (U.S.A.), from January 1862 to April 1862. Commissioned a lieutenant colonel for Hopkins County in 1863.
