Commonwealth's attorney for the 3rd Judicial District of the Commonwealth of Kentucky from 1859 to 1861. Attorney in Ohio County in 1860. Served in the 26th Kentucky Volunteer Infantry Regiment (U.S.A.) as a lieutenant colonel and colonel from March 5, 1862 to January 12, 1865. Commander of the Military District of Southwest Kentucky from October 1863 to April 1864.
