Hancock County, Kentucky, physician and soldier. Kentucky native. Married to Elizabeth Blincoe Holmes in Hancock County, Kentucky, on March 3, 1831. Father of Benjamin M. Holmes, Lewis T. Holmes, Hester Holmes, Sophronia Holmes, William Holmes, and Amelia Holmes. Member of the House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Kentucky from Hancock County in 1847. Physician in Hancock County in 1850. Owned six enslaved persons in Hancock County in 1850. Physician in Hancock County in 1860. Employed Dominic White as a gardener in Hancock County in 1860. Served in the Hancock County Home Guard in June 1861. Served as the Presiding Judge of the Hancock County Court in 1862. Founding member of the Hancock County Agricultural Society created during the 1865 to 1866 session of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Member of the Masonic Order at Hancock Lodge, No. 115 in Hawesville, Hancock County.
