Campbell County, Kentucky, merchant and politician. Virginia native. Son of Robert Hawthorn and Mary Kiger Hawthorn. Married to Mary L. Southgate Hawthorn in 1842. Father of Ann Hawthorn, Virginia Hawthorn, Margaret Hawthorn, Mary Hawthorn, Emily Hawthorn, Richard Hawthorn, Jacob Hawthorn, Sarah Hawthorn, and William Hawthorn. Store clerk in Wheeling, Virginia, from 1826 to 1836. Resident of Kentucky in 1837. Partner with Richard Southgate in the mercantile firm of Southgate, Hawthorn & Co. from 1837 to 1857. Merchant in Campbell County, Kentucky, in 1860. Member of the Whig Party. Member of the Republican Party. Member of the House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Kentucky from Campbell County from 1862 to 1867.
