Marshall County, Kentucky, attorney. Kentucky native. Son of Joel Gilbert and Charlotte Gilbert. Married to Azelia Berry Gilbert. Father of Charles Gilbert and Franklin. Clerk of the Marshall County Court in Benton, Kentucky. Elected to the House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Kentucky in 1861. Member of the convention of the provisional government held at Russelville, Kentucky, in November 1861.
