Boyd County, Kentucky, attorney and state representative. Huntington, Cabell County, Virginia native. Son of Richard Brown and Frances Haney Brown. Married to Maria J. Poage Brown in 1857. Graduated Augusta College in Augusta, Kentucky. Admitted to the Kentucky bar in 1844. Elected to the Lower House of the Kentucky legislature in 1849, representing Floyd, Pike, and Johnson counties. Elected as a Whig. Became a Democrat in 1855. Practiced law in Pikeville, Kentucky until 1860. Attorney in Catlettsburg, Boyd County, Kentucky in June 1860.
