Owingsville, Kentucky, attorney and soldier. Montgomery County, Kentucky, native. Son of Joshua Hurt and Elizabeth Pebworth Hurt. Educated at the academy of Hugh B. Todd and William Raney in Mount Sterling, Kentucky. Resident of Owingsville from 1844 to 1846. Served in the 2nd Regiment Kentucky Volutneers in the Mexican-American War from 1846 to 1847. Studied law with Andrew Trumbo of Owingsville in 1847. Resident of California from 1849 to 1851. County Attorney for Bath County, Kentucky, from 1851 to 1858. Attorney in Bath County from 1858 to 1861. Served in the 24th Kentucky Volunteer Infantry Regiment (U.S.A.) as a colonel from August 1863 to January 1865. Attorney in Owingsville in 1865. Unsuccessful candidate for the Kentucky General Assembly in August 1865. Member of the Democratic Party.
