Louisville, Kentucky, physician. Lexington, Kentucky, native. Tutored by James Logue. Graduated from Transylvania University in Lexington in 1832. Worked in Dr. Dudley’s office in Lexington in 1832. Married to Susan F. Hewitt Bell on April 4, 1833. Father of Carson H. Bell. Partnered with Dr. Meriwether in Louisville from July 1832 til his death. Wrote for the Louisville Advertiser and the Louisville Journal. Appointed Chair of the Science and Art of Medicine and Public Hygiene at the University of Louisville in 1857. Directed a military hospital in Louisville during the Civil War and served on the Board of Examining Surgeons. President of the Western division of the United States Sanitary Commission. Deacon of the First Church of the Disciples in Louisville.
