Saint Louis, Missouri, attorney, politician, and judge. Baltimore, Maryland, native. Son of the Reverend John Breckenridge and Margaret Breckinridge. Educated at Centre College in Danville, Kentucky, and the College of New Jersey in Princeton, New Jersey. Studied law at Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky. Admitted to the bar in 1846. Practiced law in Lexington. Relocated to St. Louis, Missouri, in 1850. Member of the House of Representatives of the state of Missouri from 1854 to 1855. Judge of the St. Louis Circuit Court in 1859. Member of the State Convention of Missouri from 1861 to 1863.
