Lexington, Kentucky, attorney, banker, and administrator. Scott County, Kentucky, native. Son of William Johnson and Elizabeth Payne Johnson. Married to Sallie Ann Clay Johnson on December 23, 1828. Graduate of Transylvania University in 1823. Studied law with Martin D. Hardin in Frankfort, Kentucky. Studied law with Robert Wickliffe. Graduate of the Law Department of Transylvania University in 1825. Admitted to the bar in 1825. Attorney in Lexington from 1828 to 1870. Director of the Northern Bank of Kentucky in Lexington from 1837 to 1858. Owned seven enslaved persons in Lexington in 1850. President of the Lexington Northern Bank of Kentucky from 1858 to 1878. Owned thirteen enslaved persons in Lexington in 1860. Stockholder and director of the Cincinnati, Lexington, and Louisville Railroad. President of the Law Department at the University of Kentucky in 1865.
