Twentieth Governor of Louisiana. Alexandria, Louisiana native. Son of Levi Wells II and Dorcas Huie Wells. Married to Mary Ann Scott. Attended St. John's College in Bardstown, Kentucky, Partridge's Academy in Middletown, Connecticut, and Cincinnati Law School. Ninth Lieutenant Governor of Louisiana from 1864 to 1865. Governor of Louisiana from March 4, 1865 to June 3, 1867.
