Breathitt County, Kentucky farmer and soldier. Native of Harlan County, Kentucky. Son of James Oaks and Mary Napier Oaks. Married to Lavina Oaks. Father of Sarah J. Oaks, Mary Oaks, Miranda Oaks and William Oaks. Resident of Breathitt County in 1850. Farmer in Breathitt County in 1860. Served as a sergeant in the 14th Kentucky Cavalry from June 15, 1863 to March 24, 1864. Served as a first lieutenant in the Three Forks Battalion from December 3, 1864 to July 17, 1865.
