Owned fourteen enslaved persons in Clinton in 1860. Member of the House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Kentucky from Fulton County and Hickman County, Kentucky, from 1859 to 1861. Captain in the 7th Kentucky Cavalry (Confederate) from September 1861 to April 1862. Reisgned due to health issues in April 1862. Lieutenant colonel in the 12th Kentucky Cavalry (Confederate) from October 1863 to May 1864. Moved to Paris, Tennessee.
