Richmond, Kentucky, soldier and attorney. Madison County, Kentucky, native. Son of William J. Walker and Sarah Walker. Cadet at the U. S. Military Academy at West Point, New York, from 1853 to 1857. Served in the U. S. Dragoons as second lieutenant and first lieutenant from July 1, 1857, to August 3, 1861. Served in the 2nd U. S. Cavalry as first lieutenant and captain from August 3, 1861, to December 1862. Served in the 10th Kentucky Volunteer Cavalry (U.S.A.) as colonel from December 12, 1862, to September 1, 1863. Served in the 23rd Army Corps as chief of cavalry from April to September 1863. Served in Dismounted Camp in Washington, D. C. as commissary of musters from September 1863 to January 13, 1864. Assistant in the Cavalry Bureau in Washington, D. C. from January 13 to April 25, 1864. Served in the 23rd Army Corps as commissary of musters from April 25 to July 1, 1864. Served in the Department of the Gulf as special inspector of cavalry from July 1, 1864, to July 25, 1865. Attorney in Richmond in 1865.
