Booneville, Owsley, Kentucky, attorney and soldier. Kentucky native. Married Joanah Cardwell in Owsley County, Kentucky, in 1855. Father of Florence Cardwell and Lena Cardwell. Served in the 5th Tennessee Volunteers as a private and sergeant in the Mexican-American War. Attorney in Booneville in 1860. Served in the 7th Kentucky Volunteer Infantry (U.S.A.) as a major from September 22, 1861, to February 15, 1863.
