Served in the 5th Tennessee Volunteers as a private and sergeant in the Mexican-American War. Attorney in Booneville in 1860. Served in the 7th Kentucky Volunteer Infantry (U.S.A.) as a major from September 22, 1861, to February 15, 1863.
