Owen County, Kentucky, laborer, machinist, hotelkeeper, and soldier. Frankfort, Kentucky, native. Son of Jacob H. Holeman and Mary Ann Holeman. Married to Jane B. English Holeman in Owen County, Kentucky, on February 3, 1852. Father of J. H. Holeman, Betty Holeman, Annie W. Holeman, and John Holeman. Laborer in Owen County in 1850. Machinist and hotelkeeper in Owen County in 1860. Owned nine enslaved persons in Owen County in 1860. Served in the Ohio River Battalion of Kentucky State Guard as major until his resignation on September 23, 1861. Served in the 12th Kentucky Volunteer Cavalry Regiment (U.S.A.) as a captain, major, and lieutenant colonel from July 29, 1862, to November 18, 1863. Served in the 11th Kentucky Volunteer Cavalry Regiment (U.S.A.) as colonel from November 19, 1863, to September 26, 1864.
