Served in the Provost Guard of Louisville (U.S.A.) as a first lieutenant from October 8, 1861 to August 10, 1862. Promoted and transferred on August 10, 1862. Served in the 34th Kentucky Volunteer Infantry Regiment (U.S.A.) as a captain from August 10, 1862 to February 7, 1864. Transferred with company on February 7, 1864. Served in the 6th Kentucky Volunteer Cavalry (U.S.A.) as a captain from February 7, 1864 to January 17, 1865. Resigned January 17, 1865.
