Served as second lieutenant in the 8th Tennessee Volunteer Infantry (C.S.A.) from May 17, 1861, to May 24, 1862. Served as captain in the 4th Tennessee Volunteer Cavalry Regiment (C.S.A.) from August 22, 1862, to January 1863.
