Served in the 10th Kentucky Volunteer Cavalry Regiment (U.S.A.) as second lieutenant from September 2, 1862, to September 17, 1863. Received payment from United States Army for shoeing horses in Brooksville, Kentucky, in 1862. Served in the 11th Ohio Volunteer Cavalry Regiment (U.S.A.) as captain.
