Graduated from Indiana Asbury University in Greencastle, Indiana, in June 1860. Attorney in Louisville in 1860. Served in the 14th Kentucky Volunteer Infantry Regiment (U.S.A.) as second lieutenant, first lieutenant, and captain from June 12, 1862, to January 31, 1865.
