Attended Asbury University in Greencastle, Indiana. Graduated with an M.D. from Louisville Medical College in Louisville, Kentucky, in 1856. Served in the 35th Indiana Infantry Regiment and the 1st Indiana Heavy Artillery as assistant surgeon until his death by suicide in New Orleans, Louisiana, on December 18, 1864.
