Baltimore, Maryland, physician. Cornish, New Hampshire, native. Son of Nathan Smith. Married to Julietta O. Penniman Smith in Colchester, Vermont, on July 26, 1821. Father of Adelia Smith, Allen P. Smith, and Walter P. Smith. Graduated from Yale College with a degree in medicine in 1820. Lecturer at Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky, from 1838 to 1840. Chief of surgery at the University of Maryland from 1840 to 1870. Physician in Baltimore County, Maryland, in 1860. Employed Rose Sloan and Ann Collins as dairy maids in Baltimore County in 1860. Employed Anna Jones and Louisa Walker as servants in Baltimore County in 1860. Employed Ellen Dorsey and William Harris as laborers in Baltimore County in 1860.
