Served in the 7th Kentucky Volunteer Infantry Regiment (U.S.A.) as sergeant, second lieutenant, first lieutenant, and captain from September 22, 1861, to May 16, 1863. Killed in action at the Battle of Champion Hill in Baker Creek, Mississippi, on May 16, 1863.
