Madison County, Kentucky, clerk and soldier. Illinois native. Son of J. M. Shackelford and Mallissa W. Shackelford. Resident of Madison County, Kentucky, in 1850. Deputy clerk in Madison County in 1860. Served in the 6th Kentucky Volunteer Infantry Regiment (U.S.A.) as an adjutant, lieutenant colonel and colonel from December 24, 1861, to August 22, 1864.
