Caldwell County, Kentucky, farmer and soldier. North Carolina native. Married to Mahulda "Hulda" Brantley Crowell in Crittenden County, Kentucky, on April 2, 1847. Father of Harriet J. Crowell, Sarah C. Crowell, Joseph Crowell, Sanders Crowell, Mary Crowell, and Pernecia Crowell. Resident in Crittenden County in 1850. Farmer in Caldwell County in 1860. Served in the 20th Kentucky Volunteer Infantry Regiment (U.S.A.) as a private from January 6, 1862, to January 17, 1865.
