Merchant in Washington in 1860. Employed George T. Maltby as a clerk in Washington in 1860. Owned one enslaved person in Mason County in 1860. Served in the 16th Kentucky Volunteer Infantry (U.S.A.) as adjutant from January 9, 1862. Served in the 10th Kentucky Volunteer Cavalry (U.S.A.) as lieutenant colonel from September 10, 1862 to October 1, 1863.
