Hopkins County, Kentucky, gunsmith and soldier. Virginia native. Married to Phoebe D. Paxton Whanger. Father of E. O. Whanger, Joseph H. Whanger, and Leota Whanger. Resident of Muhlenberg County, Kentucky, in 1850. Gunsmith in Madisonville in 1860. Served in the 11th Kentucky Volunteer Infantry Regiment (U.S.A.) as private from December 9, 1861. Died from an illness while in service on July 11, 1862.
