Jefferson County, Kentucky, bricklayer and soldier. Anderson County, Kentucky native. Son of Judia Hockersmith and Maria Hockersmith. Student in Louisville, Kentucky, in 1850. Bricklayer in Louisville in 1860. Served in the 10th Kentucky Cavalry Regiment (C.S.A.) as private, first lieutenant, and captain from June 29, 1862 to May 16, 1865. Captured at Cheshire, Ohio, on July 20, 1863. Paroled at Paducah, Kentucky, on May 16, 1865.
