Detroit, Michigan, student, upholsterer, and soldier. Michigan native. Son of M. T. Lane and Ruth F. Lane. Married to Mary Lane. Father of Florence Lane and Mary L. Lane. Graduate from the University of Michigan, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, in 1853. Upholsterer in Detroit in 1860. Served in the 1st Michigan Engineers and Mechanics (U.S.A.) as a captain. Served in the Invalid Corps (U.S.A.) as captain from June 15, 1863 to January 12, 1864. Served in the 17th Regiment Veteran Reserve Corps (U.S.A.) as a captain and brevet major from January 12, 1864 to April 23, 1866.
