Father of John South, Mary "Kitty" South, Richard South, Letitia South, William South, Jeremiah South, Eliza South, and Mary South. Farmer and carpenter in Breathitt County in 1850. Farmer in Breathitt County in 1860. Served in the Fifth Kentucky Mounted Infantry (C.S.A.) as second sergeant and first sergeant from September 18, 1862, to May 28, 1864. Died at Battle of Dallas on May 28, 1864.
