Married to Sarah Elizabeth Shirley Green in Jefferson County, Indiana, on June 23, 1862. Father of Cora B. Green. Attended Franklin College in Johnson County, Indiana. Read law under Judge Jesse L. Holman and Judge John D. Haynes in Dearborn County. Attorney in Dearborn County in 1860. Served in the 16th Indiana Volunteer Infantry Regiment (U.S.A.) as a sergeant from April 23, 1861, to May 23, 1862. Served in the 11th Kentucky Volunteer Cavalry Regiment (U.S.A.) as a second lieutenant, first lieutenant, and captain, from September 22, 1862, to May 13, 1865. Discharged on account of disability on May 13, 1865.
