Captured at the Battle of Buffington Island, Meigs County, Ohio, on July 19, 1863. Prisoner of war at Camp Morton, Marion County, Indiana, from July 23, 1863, to August 18, 1863. Prisoner of war at Camp Douglas, Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, from August 22, 1863. Signed a loyalty oath to the U.S. government. Served in the 11th Kentucky Volunteer Cavalry Regiment (U.S.A.) as private and second sergeant from September 21, 1863
