Frankfort, Kentucky, medical student and surgeon. Kentucky native. Son of John Marshall Hewitt and Mildred Hewitt. Attended school in Franklin County, Kentucky in 1850. Household owned seventeen enslaved persons in Franklin County in 1850. Medical student in Frankfort in 1860. Household owned nineteen enslaved persons in Frankfort in 1860. Served in the 11th Kentucky Volunteer Cavalry Regiment (U.S.A.) as an assistant surgeon from January 16, 1864, to July 14, 1865.
