Originally organized as the 3rd Kentucky Volunteer Infantry Regiment, but subsequently renamed as the 7th Kentucky Volunteer Infantry Regiment. Organized at Camp Dick Robinson in Garrard County, Kentucky. Mustered into service on September 22, 1861. Mustered out of service on March 11, 1866. Commander(s): Colonel T. T. Garrard and Colonel Reuben May.
